I got 5 B’s in freshman year in honors courses. Will the B’s effect my chance of getting into a good undergraduate medical program or a good college in general.
It depends on what your definition of a “good college” is.
My overall question is that if the B’s will effect my chance of getting into colleges with a good undergraduate medical program such as Drexel, UPenn, or Northwestern.
Schools like UPenn and Northwestern reject plenty of applicants who apply with 4.0 GPAs. Thus, the drag that your freshman year GPA will have on your overall GPA could be problematic for schools of that caliber. That said, nothing you can do about it now. Focus on doing the best you can during your remaining HS years and you will have plenty of good options when looking at colleges.
There are a lot of universities with very good premed programs. You don’t need to attend a university on the level of UPenn or Northwestern to find a very strong premed program. Also, your sophomore and junior years of high school are going to matter a lot more than your freshman year when it comes to applying to universities.
That being said, you are going to want to improve your effort and/or study skills significantly over the next few years if you want to have a realistic chance of ever attending medical school.
Many schools are not that concerned with freshman grades. At the most competitive of schools, it could matter – at the very least by lowering your class rank.
If you know what you need to do differently to do better, do it. Then you’ll have shown an ability to learn and mature.
Thank You so much for your help! In sophomore year I had straight A’s and in junior year, I have straight A’s so far so I hope the B’s I got it in freshman year won’t make a huge impact on colleges.
