Grades

I got 5 B’s in Freshmen year due to the death of my grandma, and I got 2 B’s Sophmore year as my final grade. Right now during junior year, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to end up with any B’s as my final grade. Are the B’s I got in freshmen and sophomore year gonna hinder my chance of getting into a top university that has a good pre-med program?

There are plenty of colleges for B students. Top 50 or so are unlikely, but those are not necessarily the golden ticket to medical school anyway. You will need to do better than Bs in undergrad no matter where you go, and of course, ace your MCATs. But you’re still in the game. Going into debt for undergrad is a huge mistake when you have up to six years more of schooling still to go. So your primary consideration shouldn’t be prestige so much as keeping costs down and getting top grades.

Colleges like to see that you are getting better grades in harder courses.
Your GC can include info in their recommendations saying that your grandmother dying affected you freshman year.

HOWEVER, there are 2500+ 4 year colleges in the USA. There is one for you.

Do not think 'Every point I get off of a homework or test is a point away from going to Harvard."
Think: “I need to do my best, and there will be a college that is right for me when I graduate.”

Do not think “If I don’t go to an Ivy League School/Top20, I am doomed forever.”
Think: “No matter where I go, I can bloom where I am planted. I can get involved and shine.”

Do not think: “My life is over…the kid in my math class is taking 20 APs and I am taking 5. I will never succeed.”
Think: “I need to challenge myself, but only to the point where I can still do well.”

As long as you show signs of improvement, it should not effect you much. Also, many universities now place less of a weight on freshman grades due to their transition. Plus you were going to through tough times, I am sure universities will consider that.

I get scared that I will not get into a good college, with a good pre-med program because of my grades. I feel that 7 B’s is a lot.
