Here’s what I would be taking:
Agricultural Econ (3 hours)
Biology 1001 (3 hours)
Contemporary Math (3 hours)
Intro to Social Work (3 hours)
Juvenile Delinquency (3 hours)
History of time travel (3 hours)
First Aid (1 hour)
Both the first aid class and the juvenile delinquency class only meet once a week, so the actual going to class part wouldn’t be as time consuming as it sounds.
For anyone wondering, I’m taking the history of time travel class as an elective to contribute to my history minor. I’m a social work major.
It might also be worth mentioning that I’m terrible at math. I tried to take the contemporary math class once before and I had to withdraw because I was failing. I’m taking it again with some friends who can hopefully help me study, and also I’m on ADD meds now, so hopefully it will go better.
But I’m not really worried about any class besides math and ag econ.
Does this schedule sounds doable? (obviously different people are capable of things, but I’m just collecting opinions)
Also I’m going into my first semester of sophomore year, if it makes a difference
You should be okay if you can manage your time.
I had 5 engineering classes (3 units each) and ROTC (4 units and waking up at 0400) and a 20/hr a week job and I managed my time and made it so yes it is a lot but doable
In our engineering curriculum we had 18 credits a semester first year, 23 in the second, 18/19 the third, and 18/17 the fourth. And that was primarily in hard sciences and engineering, the only “soft” courses being a required humanities/liberal arts course each semester - which actually were still quite rigorous . If you have the drive and determination you can take a heavy course load. It boils down to wanting to do something badly enough.
It’s too much, especially since there’s a class in there that you have trouble with.
Cut one class.
If your a sophomore, then you know the college drill by now. This workload definitely looks doable. Might just need to cut down on some social events during the semester but you can pick that stuff up in the spring.
What is your GPA to date? Do you also work and have clubs/ECs taking time? This is a lot of credits.
Overall, it sounds doable. I’m currently taking 17 credits in the summer. And, at least so far, it appears to be working well for me.
But, if you’re bad at math, I’d say don’t take math and agricultural econ together. Take something else instead of one of them. Maybe take something that’d be a little easier for you… Perhaps, related to history or social work?
Good luck!
Consider taking your math class online this Summer. You may find that you struggle less when it’s your only class, taken at your own pace. It’s probably not too late to sign up.
My concern is that you will be taking a couple of subjects with which, by your own admission, you anticipate having trouble. The time you are talking about with 19 units is:
- lecture/class time
- homework time
- study time
- extra help/tutoring time
- dialing in your ADHD
- eating
- sleeping
- "lifing"
This workload aggressive for someone who has a handle on all of their subjects and is extremely well organized. I worry you will be drinking from a fire hose. Even if a class is “easy”, it still requires times and attention that takes you away from all of the other subjects and life stuff you need to get done. Ask yourself WHY you feel you need to load up like this?
It seems like a lot, especially if you are taking the biology and math course. Is there a reason for you to be taking that many classes this semester? Otherwise I would recommend you spread it out some more. You will thank yourself later on.
