It seems everyone in CC has scores that are in the 1400s and 1500s range. I got a 1350 and thought I did not do well. But I looked at my report, and it showed this score to be in the 97th percentile, which is kind of weird. I guess a lot of people have scores in a high percentile range this year.
By the way, how do elite colleges think of a score like this if I submit it? Is it too low?
You don’t submit the PSAT to anyone; it’s only used for National Merit.
@axlethetraveller I have the same mindset. I this your score is awesome as the highest score in my school was a 1300. My school also tends to test well. I got a 1260 and was in the 94th percentile. I took the old SAT and got a 1800/2400 and I also took the ACT earlier this year and got a 30 composite, 25 science, 27 math, 31 English, 35 reading. These are pretty respectable scores (especially my ACT). It’s all very confusing because of the new system. Also, do you know how people qualify for National Merit Scholar?
Colleges won’t see your PSAT score, so that’s irrelevant. A 1350 SAT score, on the other hand, is too low for most top 25 colleges (except maybe Berkeley and UCLA).
@goldenbear2020 you have to remember that this is out of 1520 not 2400 or 1600, so it’s actually pretty good.
@starjoy8: A 97th percentile SAT is 1430-1450, so you’re right it’s actually competitive for top 25 colleges, although many do have top 1-2% medians/averages.
If you got a 97 on a test at school, how would you feel? Pretty good, right? Or a 94%, for that matter. You got an A on the PSAT. Will you get NMS? Unlikely? That’s a high A+
Plenty of schools would be very happy with those scores. You will have many options.
CC results do not reflect the general population. They skew much higher. Congrats to @axlethetraveller and @starjoy8 At least 93% of the population of juniors in this country would love to have your scores!
@starjoy8 @goldenbear2020 Thanks, you guys made me feel I still have the potential for success!
@mamaedefamilia National merit doesn’t matter anyway since I don’t have a green card. But if college board isn’t wrong when it calculated our percentiles, we all did well I think. Thanks!
@axlethetraveller I believe we really did do pretty well.
