I am at UC Riverside and have applied to transfer. My GPA is 3.62, but this quarter I received a 3.9. I have all B+'s in my 2 Political Science classes, and an A in 1 political science class. Do you think it is possible for someone like me to pull off all A's?

Sure.
10 char

Is it possible? Of course.

Is it likely? Nah

A number of people achieve it. If you look at the Dean’s list for Spring 2012 ([Office of Undergraduate Advising: Dean’s Honor List-Spring 2012](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/honor/honorlist/12spring.html)), the cutoff to be on the list was actually 4.0 and I see at least 500 people on the list.

Thanks UpMagic for the only useful response here

4.0 in 13 units including courses taken for P/NP for 1 semester might seem doable but that’s only 1 semester.

So aeboi, my question is without P/NP, every semester, can you maintain a high GPA, with 13 units, if you work modestly.

You can have P/NP classes. You just need to take 13 units worth of letter-graded courses.

Clearly, working like a top 4% student is enough to get all A’s (or something very close) since that is the cutoff to be on the list. If you think you are the top 4% at UCR, you will most likely be also be top 4% in Berkeley…

*No offense to anyone, but please don’t start an argument that Berkeley is a superior school and whatnot. A good student will do well no matter what university he/she attends and there always will be academically mediocre or poor student no matter how good the university is. We’re talking about the top 4% here.

I got a 3.9 at Cal this semester so yah, it’s doable. To make the Dean’s List you need 13 letter graded units and I took one unit p/np so I had no chance of making it anyway, but I didn’t think it was too difficult (I transferred from another 4-year).

Does making it on the Dean’s List carry any prestige? I’m always close, but keep getting one A- somewhere haha.

thanks everyone. One last thing, the real main question. How hard do you work for a 3.9 etc? Just trying to get a feel of UCR vs UCB. At UCR I did study a lot, but I didn’t follow the stereotype of pulling all nighters etc.

Pulling all-nighters is usually a symptom of inefficient study habits (e.g. procrastinating and then cramming, or other poor time management). So not pulling all-nighters while doing well is a good sign.

yes, it’s absolutely doable.
4.0/PS = 3.5/EECS
