Is it incredibly capped? Compared to Political Science at UCLA. If so, what do you think is the best GPA to have in order to be competitive for College of Letters and Sciences (since I know they don't admit you into your major).

Haha, this flipped me out since @ocnative is already at UCB!

Care to answer your own question?

It’d be pretty helpful to anyone applying for poli sci at Berkeley this year if you came over and answered this question, @ocnative. :)

Whoa, where did the other posts go?! I swear someone else bumped this!

Lol. It’s funny to see old threads like these.

Anyways, both Berkeley and UCLA have impacted Political Science programs. Political Science is NOT capped, however, like Economics or Media Studies. Political Science is a very popular major and it has over 900 students declared into the major. This makes upper-division classes incredibly difficult to get and you have to Phase I them always.

What is the best GPA to have as a transfer applicant? It should be high. I would say at least a 3.7 GPA would be safe. Many of my friends, who are also PoliSci majors here at Cal, transferred with 3.9-4.0 GPAs. One of them even transferred from a CSU.

I’m NOT saying that a GPA lower than that will not get you in. If your GPA is lower than a 3.7 or so then your application may be considered more holistically.
