Is a high gpa the only metric for Cornell? What are my chances?

I know people do not like this but it is important... I do not want to waste the ED benefit if there is no chance of cornell.

I am applying for the fall 2015 ED to cornell Human Ecology (for Human Biology) and agricultural and life science (for Biometry and statistics). I know CHE is the easiest college to get into and ED adds a boost. I'm from NY. idk if that helps because of the tuition break. I'm also first generation and my parents have very low income.

I have a 93 unweighted and rank slightly higher than 20%.
SAT is very low: 1900 but I took it last november (as a junior)
My ACT however is a 32. Possibly higher when I retake it next week--I've been intensely studying.

as for my classes: all honors and enriched throughout high school.
3 ap's sophomore: Bio (4), world (5), and comp sci(5)
5 as a junior: US (4), Chem (5), Euro (4), Psych (5), and Lang (3)
5 as a senior: macro, micro, physics 1, calc BC, and stat

I play piano and cello in the orchestra and have taken french for 4 years.

as for outside:
-Been a debater where I have gone to nationals and states all three years. I have won regional champion in varsity since a Freshman. Captain this year of the team..
-Model UN, been president and a chairperson for my regional conference.
-Interned at the University of Rochester
-Done pre-college summer programs there as well
-Volunteer hours: ~800
-NHS
-LGBT Activism--got involved in making a case with the ACLU. (not sure if this looks good, some people might not like gays...)

I am not sure if my low GPA is going to kill my application. I do not foresee my letter's of rec being outstanding either. Not that anything bad will be said, just, the teachers are kind of bland.

Any advice for essays, cornell, or application hints would be greatly appreciated. Cornell is my dream. I live two hours away and have visited probably 3 times just because that area is so beautiful.

Thank you :)

So you’re doing primary and alternate college choice? Why?

Yeah, your GPA and SAT score are low. But if Cornell is your top choice, then you aren’t “wasting” your Early Decision. You’re using it exactly the way it’s supposed to be used: on your number one college choice,

SAT is way below the line and GPA is low as well.
You will not get in, ED or otherwise.

I got a 33 on my act. Just got my scores today. I’m captain of the debate team and have research experience. But my average is a unweighted 93 and my school does not rank. I have 13 APs, 5 this year, four 5s, three 4s, and one 3.

How do I stand up now considering I’m applying ED for biometry and statistics at CALS

I think you stand up fine, as in you won’t be probably be automatically rejected, but neither do I think you will surefire get in. I had a friend who was basically in the opposite position of you in terms of grades and test scores, she had amazing grades, but average-ish SATs (2050-2090), but had leader of ecology club and also did a Yale internship. Shes in Cornell right now through RD. She was our salutorian though, and I think they look at it compared to the rest of the kids in your school so you should see how you measure up against your peers.

i think soze is wrong on this. just dont submit your sat. your 33 act is at their 75th percentile. and you ecs and gpa look decent-strong, so nothing is holding you down. your rank of about 20% is slightly concerning though. is it a competitive school? your first generation hook wont be a major player in this, but slightly puts you in a better position. you have a decent shot. somewhere int eh fuzzy range of high match and low reach.you have a better chance than most people. good luck! i also improved my 31 to a 33 with this months act haha

Actually, when I got my transcript, my school is not reporting rank this year. All it says is 90-100=excellent, and class size is 373.
And of course I’m only submitting my act
