Hi everyone, I am a junior and want to apply as ED next year. Please tell me what are my chances of getting into Cornell.

SAT:2250 I don't remember the exact numbers as my mom has the password and does not divulge it to even me.

Unweighted GPA is 3.8
Took AP Bio and revived a 4 and I am taking 4 this year: Ap Enviro, Us, Chem and Lang. SAT II BIO 740

I have done some community services in a youth organization racked up 80 plus hours form 9th grade and have volunteered in a hospital for 40 plus hours. I learn Vocal Indian music from when I was 5 and won an award in 9th grade. I have also gave out many recitals in ky temple. I am the editor of my school newspaper and play varsity tennis from 11th grade, NHS member, won an award for volunteer services, also in clubs such as unity in diversity in which I hope to be vice president, history club which I hope to have a position in next year and math club. I am also in Science Olympaid and Masterminds, which is like College bowl.

It really depends which college in Cornell you are applying to.
Your stats seem pretty strong, however it’s difficult to look at your gpa and tell if it is good or not without knowing anything about your school. are you in the top 10% of your class? or anywhere near that mark?
Also, even though you have a bunch of ECs, not many of them show leadership capabilities.
I think you have a pretty good shot if you apply ED, but your essays have got to be reallyyy good to make up for the lack of leadership and lack of a “story”.

How many AP courses does your school offer? They will want to see that you took the “most rigorous course load offered” at your school. Grades & SAT are good, EC’s OK. You’ll get into the conversation. Course Rigor, letters of Rec., & essays will be determining factors.

Colene, Why does the OP has only OK chances?? I thought they had fairly good chances; given that I asked for chances myself a few days before, but the others might have a better say.
Just keep trying and you will succeed. :D

I think what Colene was talking about is that the OP seems to be pretty involved, but superficially… OP, if you apply to humec or cals ED you’d have a decent shot, at least I’m assuming you want to major in a science given your extracurriculars and tests

I stopped reading after the part where she said she couldn’t get her SAT breakdown because Mom wouldn’t give her the password. Shakes head sadly.

…

OK, I’m back.

OP’s stats look similar to many who are admitted ED and, for that matter regularly. She falls right in the middle of the pack.

Hover, it’s a numbers game – so, let’s say – Cornell has a 17% acceptance rate, and OP has an above average chance of admission.

I am in top 10 percent and I am in newspaper in which I am editor, masterminds, science olympaid, history club, unity in diversity and math club

Main reason: ORM - your app doesn’t strike me as particularly unique. Your chances would be above average for sure, but not that much above - I’d say around 40% compared to ED’s around 30%. You seem like an excellent student but your slight anti-hook weighs you down. RD would be around 25%

Which college in Cornell are you planning on applying to?

I agree, your stats fall right in those who are admitted ED… but your application as far as I can see doesn’t seem interesting or unique really. And you are Indian, meaning that you will be judged harder.

I’d say you have a bit less than average chance you will get in ED, but it’s still definitely possible you can. Make sure your essays are REALLY good.

It’s okay to be a stereotype but you gotta do it well. Everything about your app says you’re avg at everything. Hence u probably have an average chance of acceptance.

Leadership that would actually really help you though would be for example being president or VP of National honor society, president of the class, or captain of the tennis team to name a few.
