Is a minor too much when taking on a "heavier" major ?

Hi readers,

I am an aspiring physician, like most biology/science majors or pre-med concentrators. I wish to go into the field of orthapaedic spinal surgery and physical therapy. I've declared a major in Pre-Biology with a concentration in Pre-medical studies. But I've ran into quite a dilemma. My existing concern is that I too take interest in computer science, not really the design or architect of the computer but more specifically the functionality of the computer (e.g., web browsers, word processors, apps, accessories, etc) really delving into what is behind this electronic and the exact relevance and importance these things have on it. Not leaving out criminal justice, because I would too like to get a broader understanding of the extent phishers go to, relating to such schemes they partake in to obtain your information in the attempt of a scam.

Should I choose one of the above mentioned subjects as a minor or do you think the course load of my declared major and concentration put together will already be enough and that any additional studies might interfere with the grades I'll receive in my primary field. Keep in mind, I would love to have a splendid resume upon entry anywhere. Wouldn't we all? :)

by the way you wrote you thing it sounds like you have more of a passion for computers. I would try to squeeze a few in, even if its not quite a minor but just for you to have fun with. biology has more memorizations where computers will have more problems and just a different way of thinking. so i would think that it is do able. but remember for you to get into med school you need an extrememly high mark and volunteer work. so more classes cuts into your time. do you need a minor for your degree?

I will check with my advisor to see if a minor is really necessary, if not then I don’t wnt to put too much strian on myself…you are correct though it would cut into my time to focus on getting a high mark. Maybe I can just focus on Pre-Med now and then maybe get a Masters in something like biomedical engineering later. Then apply to Med School, because I want to make sure I can fully dedicate my time to making my undergraduate application look good.
