Ok, before anyone tells me "anthropology is a useless degree" which I have heard a million and one times, just know that I am already aware of what I am getting into with it and still want to pursue it as it is my passion.
However, when I went to the career services counselor at my school when I wanted to switch from a psych major to something else she said that sociology was pretty promising. Since then I discovered anthropology and fell in love with it. Since I decided that sociology was more promising but not so much my passion, I decided to double major just to have that extra advantage. However, lately I have been doing research and feeling that sociology is just as useless as anthropology, just from my online research perspective.
Would dropping my sociology major be a dumb move, or would I be okay dropping it and just focusing on anthropology? I want my emphasis to be cultural anthro and archaeology, so I am thinking of picking up a minor in geology to go along with the anthropology because a knowledge in geology would be a great edge with archaeology. What do you guys think?

You can be successful with most degrees. Anthropology has many opportunities depending on what you would like to do with it. You may find these links to be helpful:

My friend got an undergrad degree in Anthro and had her entire anthro PHD paid for by UCLA. She has consistantly had work in between her degrees and many opportunities outside of UCLA and UT- Austin to do research. My cousin also got her anthro PHD paid for at the U of Southern Florida. They both love the field and have been very successful with it.

^I know someone who got an Anthropology PhD from an Ivy but could not find a tenure track position anywhere. They’re now an adjunct at a low tier state school making ~30k after 10 years.

^There are a lot of variables in Anthropology and funding/jobs. It really matters what you want to research, the papers you publish, and making connections, etc. I don’t think either my cousin or my friend focus on working in academia, but would rather do field work. There is a demand for people who want to do field work and you can make good money doing that depending on where you live and who you work for. It’s like any other field, it is what you make of it, for the most part.
