Is a weighted GPA always on a 5.0 scale?

I have a 3.6 GPA unweighted and a 4.3 GPA weighted.
Obviously my art classes and the required Econ/Gov at my school is not weighted, so an A only equals a 4.

I was wondering if the 4.3 is out of a 4.0 or out of a 5.0 because if it's out of a 5.0, my unweighted GPA definitely looks better.

Thanks!

No. a 5.0 would imply that 100% of your courses are AP or +1 in grading.

Even if a high schooler were to take 10 AP classes out of 40 total high school classes, the max GPA would be 4.25 ((105) + (304)) / 40

If a school counts certain Honors courses as +1 also, let’s say 10 more of those, then we have ((205) + (204)) /40 = 4.5

Sorry, I’m a little confused.
So does that mean I have a 4.3 weighted GPA out of a 4.0?
Thanks

to continue the above:

At any rate, each college converts your grades in a way that fits their internal analysis. Some count honors courses as +1 to the grade, some don’t. Some, like the UCs, have a list of Honors courses that qualify for +1 grading specific to each high school in California. As far as I know 100% of colleges count all AP classes as +1 in gpa computation.

OP, yes, that means you have a 4.3 in a scale of 4.0, with AP and some honors courses giving bonus points above the scale.
