The most popular major in America right now? It seems like everybody is an accounting major.

I was watching some video (or reading something, don't remember) and it was stated that Accounting is the new "sexy" major. I am going to major in accounting thou.

Far from it, the most popular majors at my (business) school are marketing, management, and finance. Accounting falls in with human resource management and MIS.

As far as my entire school goes, psychology and nursing are the most popular majors.

Here, it just seems like Accounting, is the most popular, I guess maybe because I'm around a lot of accounting people, being in Toastmaster and etc.

McGriff, I know you're an accounting major, how much harder is the intermediate accounting course, over the principle courses? I'm doing extremely well in my accounting princ 1 class got like a 96 average. I here the intermediate sequence is the weedout sequence.

Intermediate is a lot of work... tedious work, but when you get through it, you gain a lot of confidence in your ability to understand business and what makes it work

what does accounting consist of? a lot of math work?

Computers do most of the math work in Accounting. Accounting is an evolving profession, and consists of understanding a lot of different laws and regulations these days. Also, accounting is a very wide open career, because there are many different types of accountants from tax to audit to forensic to private to public to not for profit...Also, with an accounting degree you can work in financial departments of companies, or be a finance professional. It's a big profession that is unaffected by the economy... rather practical.

@311Griff: where do you go to school?

@mssales: where is "here?" (were you just referring to CC?)

University of Southern Indiana.
