I am just wondering if anyone here is currently taking courses in accounting because I am applying to an accounting program.......I wanted to know how you like it or dislike it. Does anyone here specialize in taxation? If you don't mind me asking, what school do you go to or plan to go to for accounting?

I am currently taking my 2nd quarter of accounting at UC Davis. It is basically very easy math and setting up cost sheets, how to figure out profit, whether or not a business plan should change. It is very easy after you learn out how to do it, but often there is a lot of complex terms which actually mean very simple ideas, so just be cautious about that. Also, it can take an extremely long time if you mistype like 50,000 as 5000 or something b/c you have to go over a lot of numbers, but other than that I really enjoy my class and I have learned a lot of useful information. Good luck in your accounting classes.

Accounting is actually a lot more complex than explained by ilikeoranges. There are a lot of different equations and information relationships that you have to learn and accustom yourself to in order to be successful at it. Basic accounting is just the debits, credits, basic creation of financial statements, etc. But upper level accounting gets into the concepts and meaning behind the numbers and relationships as well as different decision making tools used in management and business which gets awfully complicating fast.

taking accounting right now... bores me to death, not as hard as people think it is.

hobofromdowntown, what level of accounting are you taking? The basic level of accounting is rather boring, because it's essentially bookkeeping--a very boring vocation/subject.

it's easy, mind numbing work

that pays pretty well. but i will agree, it's not for me.

Are you an accountant/been an accountant?
Or are you just talking about the class?

I have one semester left as an accounting major and the material is much harder after the first few courses. I enjoy the subject matter and do not regret making it my major.
