Is ACT with writing not required now?

My daughter is a freshman this year and she had to take the ACT with writing. My 11th grader is signed up to take ACT with writing Saturday. But now I looked and they don’t seem to require it anymore. It really never occurred to me to check. Oh well, nothing to do about it now! I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to find out he didn’t need to do it.

It’s not required since it is not included with the new sat.

Oh well. He’s taking it anyway!

So I have another question. My son took the ACT (no writing) last year as a 10th grader and got a 34. I just sent OSU that score since finding out that they don’t need the writing. What if he does worse this time? Will that matter? Should I wait to see how he does before sending his score to OSU? Would they accept an ACT score from 10th grade?

Wow, that’s incredible. Yes, I believe OSU would accept the sophomore score. ACT scores generally don’t “expire” for five years, and I doubt that varies by institution. Still, it would be good for him to take it again to see if he can really knock it out of the park and get an awesome scholarship. If he does worse, it doesn’t matter. Universities look at the highest composite. Send the scores for every test he takes; it shows that he’s made an effort to improve on an already impressive score.

56lindabee- My daughter took the SAT in her sophomore year. She took it again in junior year but her sophomore year score was her highest. She did not automatically send the second score to her college choices. When applying to colleges as a senior, she only sent the highest one (from sophomore year) unless a school required “send all scores”. If you can, wait to see if it’s a better score before you send to colleges. I think that’s best. My opinion- Good Luck!
