is amc necessary at mit?

Is it necessary to take the AMC in order gain acceptance into MIT's Engineering school?

What if my school offers it?
What if my school doesn't offer it?

Thanks

no its not

No, though there is a spot on the application about this, so if you got a really good score, it may be to your advantage to report.

what if i got a 100.5 on the amc12, qualified for the aime and took it, but didn't make it past that round? - is it worth reporting that? or is it better to just not report anything?

What was your AIME score?

Look, putting down an 100.5 is not bad. It's still like top 10% nationwide. It may be below median for the MIT student body, but unless they would think you're a math genius if you don't put it down (i.e. the rest of your app points to that) I see no reason not to.

there's a lot of people that get into MIT that didn't do amc at all..

yeah. it helps but is not an automatic.
