I was accepted recently, and I would like to go, but I am concerned as to whether or not it is fun.

I know that is silly, but as much as I do like to learn, I DO want to enjoy my college experience. I want to study, but I also want to let loose, and have fun.

That is my main concern. Any thoughts on this?

As no one has responded yet, let me rephrase the question. Perhaps I didn’t give a good understanding of what I meant.

I really like Amherst, but in all honesty, I want to know if I’ll have a good time, academics aside. There are some schools that have an equal balance between work and play, and there are others that don’t.

So, what I want to know is; Which school is Amherst?

I guess all the Amherst students are too busy studying(or too frightened to reveal the truth) to answer. Now let’s see if that gets you some responses!

All Amherst students have lockdown in their dorm rooms unless they are in class or at the library. No fun at all. :(

seebo123, of course students have fun. My D and her friends study very hard, then play equally as hard. There is no shortage of “fun” at Amherst. Maybe you haven’t gotten any responses because they have other things to do than be on CC on a Friday night. :)

Amherst is definitely fun. Students here have a good balance between school work and social life. Of course, there are some Friday nights when you have to finish a paper in the library, but the typical Amherst student will finish his or her paper then head down the hill to the social quad to a friend’s birthday party until 2 in the morning.

When my daughter was choosing between Amherst and several other schools with similarly rigorous academic programs, she visited the campuses and it was immediately clear: Amherst struck the perfect balance for her with an intellectually-stimulating environment, challenging courses with engaged professors AND a vibrant community of diverse students who work hard and have a great time, too. She was actually leaning heavily towards another college, but it took just one visit to both colleges to see that Amherst was the best fit aademically and socially. Every student she spoke with said they loved Amherst; the feeling on campus confirmed this.
