Obviously, if you go to Amherst, you’re going to receive a great undergraduate education at one of the top two liberal arts colleges in the country. However, one drawback to LACs is that some students feel that they are small and might become tired of it by the end of 4 years. By being within 5 minutes of a large state school, do you feel that Amherst offers the best of both worlds? A great undergraduate education but also the resources and social opportunities of a state school (for those who want them)?

Maybe, tending towards yes. Most people would spend 80-90% of their time on campus. But if you want it, I know many, many people who utilize the other colleges. I took 4 classes elsewhere myself. I have friends working in labs in UMass, attending church groups in UMass, dating people over there, etc, etc. Also, UMass food is AMAZING, so it cancels out mediocre Amherst College food.
