I will be a sophomore and this summer I have might get two positions.

--I have one for as an accounting assistance for the AACN (American association of colleges of nursing) in which I will do real accounting work. I'll be doing recording Accts payable, cutting checks, recording membership payments, etc. I'll be working for CFO. It would only be me and her doing all of the accounting. The association (not company) is non-profit and helps out the nursing programs for colleges.

--I also might get an job as an student budge analyst for the Department of Justice. There I won't do any accounting work, rather analyse fundings, present budget proposals, speak with several federal agencies. Mostly planning and analyzing budgets.

My question is which job looks better on the resume for Big4 recruiting? I will be applying for the Big4 this Fall and want to show them I have work experience. Would the Big4 value you having experience with an actual accounting job more or a work experience with a "big name" finance internship? (Compared to the AACN, the Department of Justice is a 'bigger' name)

Neither job is going to be directly applicable to your duties as an auditor. Really, it doesn’t matter either way. They probably care only that you took the initiative to be employed during the summer. After that, the hiring decision is going to be based on: your gpa, any school activiites of note, and most importantly how well you conduct yourself in the interview.

I will 3 jobs during college by the time I apply–teller at Apple Federal Credit Union, cashier at Costco, and possibility this accounting job.
- Should I mention I worked at Apple and Costco?

As for the initial interview, I know it is just GPA and school activities. For school activities, what specifically do they look at? do they care about leadership in the clubs or clubs relating to business?

Here is my college Extracurricular activities of the past 3 years:
- vice-president of the tennis club
- president of a local toastmasters
- tutor at local high school and at the college
- treasurer of investment club
- member of consulting & entrepreneur clubs
- assistant teacher at a Chinese school

In your opinion, would a 3.69GPA and these activities get me the initial interview? :D
