It might be worth waiting for the decision if you are in-state. The $20k tuition versus $36k for state schools out of state or $50k for private schools is pretty compelling.

We’re OOS so it’s not a factor.

While UMass is a good school for in-staters, it is probaby a better deal to attend your own main state university. It amazes me that so many people in New England attend neighboring state universities. All the New England state schools are about the same academically. Maybe Amherst is nicer than Storrs, but if you live in CT, UConn is a great school at a great price.

They have had my son’s application since begining of Dec. also. We are checking the mail everyday. Umass Amherst is his top choice and its the last school we are waiting on. It really stinks that its taking so long for an answer. Does anyone know if they always send out decision letters this late or is it because they got so many more applications this year?
I just hope it comes soon!

abdad, funny you mention about the state schools. we’re also still waiting from our state school (Binghamton). These are the 2 remaining decisions. My son’s top choice all along was UDel, so that’s we’re he’ll go. I doubt he’ll get into Bing anyway, waitlsited at best.

Personally, I think that this system needs an overhaul! My son applied in October, early action. He was deferred to regular decision. April 1 and he still has not heard, yet others from his h.s. have! Meanwhile, other large state schools – have welcomed him. The sad thing is, he was so excited in October about Umass, but now he feels unwanted. Maybe that’s irrational, but he’s 17 and that’s how he thinks. We have received not only all the other decisions, but all the other financials, and have planned our April trips to schools. At this point, I think he has mentally attached himself to another school. I realize that this means nothing to Umass, which has a gazillion applicants and doesn’t need to worry about the feelings of their incoming freshman. But from a parent’s point of view, I think it means something. We would be paying out of state, yet the two times we have called (way back in the fall) we were treated with rudeness. I wonder if this is how they treat their students? Many schools release their decisions in April, and if that is true for all RD applicants, then it makes sense. But Umass has trickled out decisions here and there.

One possibility is that some reviewers are just slower than others, if they assign applications to individuals. Perhaps more likely is that they make a quick determination of definite no, definite yes, or maybe. For the maybes they have to take into account how many there are and how many definite yeses they already have. Then they have to make a more thorough comparison of applicants, so it takes longer. Just a guess that makes sense to me. They probably do have more applicants than usual also.

I got into Boston University with some really good financial aid, I am really wondering if they are going to send me something.

I’m very nervous also, I sent out my application sometime in Mid-December I think, and a lot of my friends whom sent their apps. later than me have already got acceptances. I’m going to try and be positive and follow womanofmanyhats’s advice lol. I’m confident I’ll get in but now I’m worrying that something was wrong with my application. By any chance does anyone know what size the acceptance letter is? My friend said it was normal envelope size but the acceptance I got from another Unv. was portfolio size.

I live out of Massachusetts and applied there and I am pretty sure I will not be going there and instead to Boston University because they have taken so long, now I just want to see I get inbecause I just want to know.

Kiythe, my son’s acceptance letter came in a UMass folder so it was more of a legal size (9" x 12") envelope. Not sure if that would be considered to be the same size as portfolio, but definitely larger than a normal envelope.

S still waiting. Applied mid-december. mid 1400/1600 SATs, 3.7/4.0 W GPA. Both parents graduates of UMass…and still waiting! Umass is now at the bottom of his list and he has sent deposit in elsewhere.

We’re still waiting too. It has long since fallen off of my son’s list.

I just got in today, but I will probably go to Boston University instead.

i applied early December… still waiting.

Ryansheart…I went to both schools (UMASS undergrad) BU (graduate school) so feel free to PM me or ask questions here about the schools.

Finally the wait is over. I just got my acceptance. Not my preferred major though which was Computer Science, instead I’m accepted as English(BA). No worries though I’m extremely happy that I got in and I plan to transfer into Computer Science later on when I raise my grades =]

Still nothing, yet.

We are also still waiting. Sent application in mid-Dec.

sent all my materials in mid november and expected to get in easy. still havent heard yet and this is getting a bit absurd
