I am going to Boston University this summer for a research internship in medicine. Is anybody else going to their high school honors program this summer, or has anybody been to it before?

Hopefully, if I am accepted. Have you already been accepted or are you a wishful thinker? If so, what are your stats?

I was accepted! I have a 3.94, 5 on the AP Bio and AP world after soph. year, This year I'm in 5 APs, including Calc AB and Chem. I'm also taking anatomy. I have a 221 PSAT and a 33 ACT. (I hadn't taken the ACT yet, so it didn't help) I also have a lot of extracurriculars, but I don't think they took that into account. Good luck! Please tell me if you get in!
Just out of curiousity, are you a male or female Alex?

I sent in my application on monday; I have not heard back yet. I applied to the Research Internship in Engineering or Physics.

By the way, where are you guys from?
Im from NC

I'm from Indiana. What are everyone elses stats?

I'm from California and plan to apply sometime this upcoming week.

How long after you sent in your application did you find out if you were accepted? How do they notify you?

Well...I live in Boston! So I guess I'll be here! haha

I needed to know really quickly, because I had also been accepted into Miami and only had a week to decide. I still hadn't heard with the Miami deadline fast approaching, so my mom called Boston and they said I'd gotten in. I received e-mail notification within a few days of that. I guess it took 2-3 weeks after I sent in the application.

emswim: Is the Miami program you applied to also related to scientific research?

sort of

to harvard ssp

No, it was kind of an intro to biomedical engineering. No research.

I'm having second thoughts about spending six weeks this summer alone on scientific research. I might instead take a 2- or 3-week long course at a university; I probably will not be applying to the Boston University program. Good luck to those who will be applying.

I'm going
Im hoping to do research in magnetism

Masamune: where are you from? Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I'm going to Harvard SSP.

i'll be headed to boston only if i get accepted into PROMYS, which is held at Boston University.

Oh hi! My name's Sam R. I'm a junior from Northern California (Bay Area I guess). I go to Monta Vista High School in Cupertino.

I'm highly interested in math (mostly analysis, and number theory) as well as in theoretical physics (magnetism espeically, such a cool field). Even still, I wanted to do some research this summer for the experience.

I'm completing AP Physics C and AP Biology this year and I take advanced math at Stanford University.

Last summer I participated in the PROMYS program, probably the best math camp ever. I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering a math camp as an option!

Masamune: what are your hobbies outside of academics? Do you play sports (I swim) or do any other extracurriculars?

Hmm..not really haha...junior year has taken a toll on my free time..

Although, I've managed to keep up with my reading (I really enjoy it). I'm a fan of "modern" transcendentalism, and my favorite books are Pilgrim at Tinker Creek and Teaching a Stone to talk-both by Annie Dillard.

I like photography and architecture, but since I'm right now without a good, working camera, I draw to satisfy my craving of aestheticism.

Since I don't have the resources to travel right now, I also enjoy reading books about traveling. Not the tourist guides, mind you. I like to read fictional stories about traveling. There's something captivating about a poetic sojourn. In any case, when I can, I want to travel (I've never been outside of the country :( )

Yeah, in terms of extracurriculars, I don't do all that much. I'm proud and passionate about my Math and Science club though!
