Is anyone else dying slowly waiting for December 1st?

depends on lots of things. NJ seems to be a very popular state for them, so i wouldn’t get too excited yet if you’re from NJ. also, as i;m sure you’re aware, if you’re a minority you should be optimistic. if you’re from an obscure state you should be optimistic too. but, just don’t get your hopes up. if mine were all the way up, i’d probably be crying now.

Well, our family now knows the heartbreak of rejection. I wonder if this bodes poorly for acceptance at my alma mater.

Have fun, class of 2014 at William and Mary! I’m sure my son will find another school to love (although, really, W&M is so perfect; it will be quite a challenge)

i’m so sorry UVaHOO87, but i really do believe that things will work out…i can’t imagine how he’s feeling right now though…sending good thoughts your way…

good luck to you and your son!

yeah like I said before, I have a feeling I’ll get deferred, but it sure would be nice to get in nowwwww

westbound you have higher scores than me but like 7049 as long as you have good sat scores everything else comes highly into play.
I really hope my work in my ECs help me- my grades aren’t the BEST but I hope everything’s good enough and maybe I stand out.

My son got a deferral letter today. The dreaded small white envelope. The stats, for those keeping track, are 2030 SATs with a very high GPA and three varsity sports among other activities. I realize people are taking the referrals as tantamount to rejections, but they aren’t. Yes, it drags out the process but folks shouldn’t despair. We get to do a few more college visits.

Aw…guys…I’m so sorry about all the deferrals…

…I didn’t realize they defer so many people. ><

Okay so my frustration and everything has gone away, and I am excited again for tomorrow. I’m hoping for the best for everyone else still waiting!

Congratulations to everyone who’s been accepted! And to those who’ve been deferred try to keep your spirits up, I’m sure you’ll do fine!

That said, I didn’t get anything today. I live in northeastern NJ, which though this doesn’t apply to my school, seems to be a big area for them (and all colleges I guess).

The wait’s killing me though, if I don’t hear tomorrow I’ll go insane. I’m kinda glad almost, because I’m so nervous and I’d rather get my letter after I’ve had a good night’s sleep on a Friday rather than getting whatever letter after a long week of school…I really hope I get in…

Hey 7049 - deferred WM but accepted at U Mich? You’re right no tears for you - U Mich is a great school! I would get pysched for U M - things have a way of working out for a reason - take this as an opportunity, of someone seeing you as a best fit for them - embrace it - Did you visit both schools? Ann Arbor is beautiful. Congratulations.

hahah thanks oMoono!
except my sister goes there and has had some problems with the people there that i will likely encounter as well. not to mention five friends of gotten in (all people I would not want to see in college, cruel as that may sound). and i kind of wanted to be an individual with the whole college thing, so my parents can get new car stickers and such. I’ve got a few other options too but UMich seems to be the best academically as of right now… I’ll see in April I guess…

congrats to the new members of the WM community…

and to those that were deferred, keep plugging away until the end of your first semester, finish your other apps, and relax. If something worth mentioning comes up, send it on to the admissions office. They do accept students who have been deferred.

I’m getting the impression here that decisions seem to be fairly numbers-driven, which seems a little surprising to me. Is that really the case?

this is a very small sample of the actual applicants though

Countingdown*, I really think most schools are somewhat “numbers driven”, especially the top notch ones. However, as someone else said, William and Mary really does take a more holistic approach. As long as your numbers are within their range, I think they are known to take a long, hard look at the individual applicants. “What will you bring to our school that is unique?” We’re banking on this. My daughter’s school keeps track of pure “numbers” for schools that the girls have applied to. The scattergram includes rejections and acceptances. Once you plug in your number, it shows you where you stand with regard to past applicants. I think it only goes back a few years because every year gets more and more competitive. Anyway, her school doesn’t weight and doesn’t use the standard GPA, so you have to plug in your actual grade. With her low A average, she has people above her and below her that got rejected and accepted. I really think W&M is not numbers driven – it’s just another piece of the puzzle.

Good luck everyone! I’ve got a feeling that today is going to be a big acceptance day for all of you (and my daughter, too!). Good thoughts your way and STAY BUSY!!

I wish I knew when the mail comes on saturdays

and thanks terig!!! I sure hope your feelings are correct :)

I’m also in NoVa, with no news yet. Sorry about all of the deferrals guys, but I have a feeling I’ll be joining you after reading some of your stats. I have an SAT of 2340/1540, but my GPA is very low (3.3ish). I worked very hard on other parts of my application, though. When I went to visit WM they told us that while they do look at the whole picture, that GPA was far more important than SAT. sigh. we’ll see.

good luck to all!

I got in!!!

omg this is surreal!!!

stats:
680 680 680

gpa: like an 89 (we have a weird gpa)
no class rank

OOS- nj

tons of ECs, concertmaster of orchestra
i guess okay essays and recs

congrats to all! message me so we can talk!
Good luck to all deferrals and people waiting, you have my heart!

Congrats, Keil. Shows acceptance isn’t just about numbers but the entire person.

yes!! my number grades and sat scores were my lowest- esp for OOS

but my ECs were really genuine I love orchestra so much
