We’re 3 hours away as well. I told my daughter not to expect it until Friday, but Thursday would be even better. I was thinking since they didn’t go out until the afternoon mail today that we probably wouldn’t get it tomorrow.

i live in new england- i’m expecting the letter on friday…i think that sounds about right? saturday at the latest? wow i can’t concentrate on anything! Just need this letter! So I have heard that some colleges (like Williams) packages its acceptance letter in a small envelope. Does anyone know if it’s small or big? I’m assuming big but you never know…

^We’ve discussed this a little bit earlier in the thread.

Apparently, it’s a little bigger than a regular letter, but it’s not extravagant. Sometimes it says “Welcome” on the front. Other times it doesn’t.

The letter might be different this year for all we know though. =P

Big envelope for acceptance…small for deferred, waitlist, or rejection. D1 got the big envelope in 2007. D2 received the small one in 2009

Momray - so much for the legacy factor, huh? My daughter and close friend are both anxiously awaiting the ED decision from W&M and her friend’s parents both went to W&M. We sort of thought she would have a big advantage!

Way back when, I remember a classmate’s mom rushing to school to give her daughter her ED letter from UVa. I’m guessing mom must have opened it, because she probably wouldn’t have done that if the letter contained a deferral!

But there we were in 7th period calculus and three of us who also had applied were forced to wait until after-school activities ended for us to go home and get our letters. Talk about a loooooooong practice …

I must say I like the old-fashioned wait-until-the-postman delivers the news aspect of this. In this day of immediate gratification and instant information dissemination, it’s a rare lesson in patience. A hard lesson, but there’s a beauty to it, methinks.

(Plus, our mailman is the greatest, so any piece of snail mail keeps him gainfully employed)

I hate to strike fear into the hearts of everyone, but we just got our D’s ED letter and she was deferred. It was a reach for her, so we’re not crushed, but of course we were hoping they would accept her. I guess the good news for everyone reading this is that at least that leaves one spot open for you! Good luck everyone, and keep your fingers crossed for us for April 1.

could you post some stats please? in-state or out-of-state? sorry for your d’s deferral!

Oh, justwonderful, I’m sorry about that. I know she must be disappointed. Does she know? My daughter wants me to come to her yoga class today after school with letter in hand if it should come. I told her not to expect me because I really didn’t think it would come today. Where are you located? I will absolutely keep my fingers crossed for justwonderful’s daughter!!! I’m sure she is “just wonderful” too! They say that the right school is out there for everyone, so I’m sure things will work out for her, but if she’s like my daughter, she wants things to work out the way she has planned for them to work out!

justwonderful, if I remember correctly you are living overseas. How did your daughter get her news so quickly?

justwonderful - I’m sorry for your d’s disappointment. I’ll hold out hope for her for April!

terig, westbound 11 and mom2inva, vis a vis your questions – W&M very kindly e-mailed the letters to everyone who lives overseas (found out via facebook posting). That was great, since it can take more than two weeks for us to get our mail. I almost hate to post stats, because applications are SO subjective, but here are the outlines – even though we’re overseas, we’re Virginia residents (ie in-state) D has killer ECs, great EC honors and internships and unique life abroad. Also really great essays. SATs, GPA all in the middle 50% range. She doesn’t even know yet, and will definitely be disappointed, but I know she’ll keep cranking out those As and ECs and maybe she’ll have a shot the next go 'round!

I am so sorry that the news was not better. I think the hardest part of the deferral is having to wait a little while longer. Give your daughter a big hug and tell her there are lots of people out here that hope to see her at WM in the fall.

Wow, it sounds like your daughter was certainly qualified, justwonderful. I don’t consider it a reach if you fall within the school’s middle 50%, especially given everything else she has to offer. I think everyone (pretty much) who applies is qualified…it’s what THE SCHOOL needs to round out a class that determines whether or not you get in ultimately. AND, she still could get in. It’s just that darn wait.

Mail just came…but nothing from W&M We’re only an hour away in Richmond.

Justwonderful – Bless your heart. Sending you big hugs through cyberspace to you and your daughter and keeping fingers crossed for RD

Ugggg…if you didn’t get it today then we definitely won’t! My daughter she emailed me from school (she goes to a boarding school) and says she absolutely can think of nothing else…GOING CRAZY!!

my sister got deferred as well…

i wish i could be there for her right now…

arasam - did she get something in today’s mail? BTW, she is very blessed to have such a caring and empathetic sister.

Nothing in today’s mail…It has got to come tomorrow.
