Is anyone else turning down the NYU acceptance?

OOOOOOPS! I directly copied a hyperlink onto here, so the link that I posted doesn't send you anywhere.

<a href="http://www.nyu.edu/careerdevelopment/survey/2005/fulltime.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.nyu.edu/careerdevelopment/survey/2005/fulltime.php</a></p>

That's the first link--I'm too lazy to get the second one, but that one wasn't as informative as this one.

Sorry!

NYU gave me pitiful aid...my EFC was extremely low, but they only gave me a $10k CAS scholarship. Basically, every other school I applied to gave me more aid, including all the UC's I was accepted to (even though I'm OOS). I'll be heading off to Providence, as Brown's finaid package was top-notch.

$10K is a lot considering what they gave me

WOWZERS! I guess NYU will miss out on a lot of the great kids here. It's a shame, but they're loss-you're gain. I'm sure everyone will make their next four years count, regardless of the college you will attend. Have fun, and stay safe =)

I'm turning it down for BU. Even though NYU had been one of my top choices, I visited again this spring and couldn't really see myself as a student there. BU gave me better merit aid and the honors program, and I prefer its campus to Washington Square Park. NYU is still a great school, and I hope to go there for med school, but it's not the right place for me now.

I am turning down NYU for the following reason:

I can remember the beginning of 9th grade like it was yesterday.

I'm sure the next 4 years will fly by just the same.... As much as I like the idea of "being in NYC.. everything's there", I am not going to be a victim of their GREAT advertising campaign... when I can be successful at other top schools that accepted me (and gave me double the money, too). I can't put myself or my parents in such a crappy financial position just to be able to say "Wow I was in NYC".. not unless NYU was recently acquired by the better NYC school, COLUMBIA.

If NYC is truly the place where all opportunities lie, I'm sure they will still be there when I graduate from another school, with plenty of money to spend to go see for myself.

Good point. I'm turning the acceptance to NYU as well. As much as I would like to go, I just can't afford it. Sure, I might be extremely happy there for four years, but then I'd probably have to move back in with my parents, only to get a crappy job and hand over my paycheck to Sallie Mae. In the end, I'd be both emotionally and financially miserable.

I'm going somewhere in-state. I'll graduate with little to no debt, and with no help from the parentals. I'll get to New York eventually, and hopefully it will be "on my own terms."
