Is AP psychology worth self studying for?

Is it worth self studying just so i can get the National AP scholar thing?

Sure why not. It’s basically just memorizing definitions.

Bump :)

Thanks! Do you know which book is the best to buy for AP psych? (Barron’s, Princeton Review, etc.)

ap psychology is definitely worth self studying for, its really simple
its like crazystraww said, it really is just memorizing :stuck_out_tongue:
and the best book is barron’s, really informative with 15 questions after every chapter to help you recall the previous information
i hope this helped! :)

I just did this this year. I would say to definitely go for it, AND USE MCGRAW HILL 5 STEPS TO A 5 IT IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST. Start reading it 2 months in advance, and you’ll have a guaranteed 5 and it shouldn’t interfere with your other exams. Don’t totally rely on the 5 steps practice tests, I would say maybe get your hands on some princeton or online ones, but their content review can’t be beat.

What if you’re a rising senior? I was thinking of doing the same, but since I’ll be graduating next year there doesn’t seem to be a point in it other than the satisfaction of getting another 5 and the AP scholar w/ distinction award.

If you can get credit from it, go for it.

Getting credit can help you place out of the most mind-numbing classes in college. If you’re not breaking the bank by taking an extra test, do it.

Worth it. Probably the easiest test out there. And it will get you out of a general ed psych class if you pass and your college accepts it. Barron’s is all you need.

^ YES… if i had spent an hour reading a prep book i would have gotten a 5. I signed up for the AP psych test…(self-study) and then forgot to study for it…

I got a 3. WITH NO CONTENT KNOWLEDGE.

Is it still worth it if i cant get credit for it?

I got a 4 after studying for a day, but that was the most brutal day of studying. It’s not necessarily a hard test; it just covers a lot of concepts. So, if you are good at memorization, then the AP Psych test shouldn’t be that difficult.

^ Just get an overview of the colleges you want to go too and see if most of them will take a 4/5 for credit.

So two weeks is enough studying?

If your future uni accepts it go for it.

Two weeks is enough studying…for some people. This is CC, where there are too many obscenely gifted people with great memories. The average person (or rather, the lower 98% of people) will need more than two weeks to learn enough psychology to get a five. If you’re kind of serious about a 4 or 5 start a month or two (or eight) ahead just to be safe.

How important is AP National Scholar anyway?
Also I heard that Ap State Scholars tend to take 20 or so AP tests…that’s crazy isn’t it?

National scholar is impressive, but not very important. Plenty of top tier applicants have national scholar, and it won’t define you from anyone else.
