Thinking about self studying AP Psychology. The only reason for this would be to get the AP Scholar Award (since Im taking 2 AP's this Junior year) in time for me to put on my application. So, would it be worth it, and if so how long would it take (in hours) to study out of the Barron's book enough to get a 3+?

I think you should try to aim higher (go for a 5) and read through the book three times. The first time is to get a general sense of psychology, as it can be a bit difficult to connect all the ideas and different terms. The second time, read and memorize. The third time, a quick brush up before the exam. You can read through the book in a day. Barron’s is sufficient for a 5.

I took a class too (which was an excellent class). I would reccommend getting two prep books just because of the practice questions and one may miss something. I used Barron’s and read it over a period of time (a few weeks). I think that that helped a lot more than just reading it right before. If you know Barron’s, you are at least gauranteed probably a 3+. Many people think that psychology is an easy test, and so do some many people going to take the test. These people are all very well prepared too (well, most of them). You need to study, no matter how easy people tell you it is (it’s only easy if you know the material). So get Barron’s and probably one more prep book if your self-studying and you should be fine if you spend a few weeks going through them. I got a 5 on the exam, but I studied my butt off for it. CollegeBoard is also making it harder to get a 5 on the test because they realize everyone thinks of it as an easy blow-off exam.

To get a 3 on the AP Psych test, you probably only need to read the book through once. I used Barron’s, and it seems quite sufficient.

I read the book the night before and the morning of the test and ended up getting a 5, so it’s really not that hard to learn the material quickly. A lot of it is common sense, too. It’s just matching an official term with a concept you’re probably already familiar with.

I would recommend self-studying this course. Or US Government. They’re the easiest to self-study because it’s very familiar to everything you know already, most likely. Just read through the book twice, and you’ll most likely get a 5.

My friend self-studied the ap psychology exam and he received a 5. First, he bought himself PR, but then he realized that it wasn’t sufficient. So, he bought Barron’s, and after reading it, he said that he wished that he could have used it earlier or bought it instead of PR. When he received a 5, he told me that he must have receive it by luck. So, Barron’s.

Yes, to be short and to the point. Barron’s is the way to go.
