I plan on applying to UCSB, UCSC, UCLA and, possibly, UCB. Is Art History a competitive major? I've completed all my pre reqs, will be IGETC certified in spring 10 and will receive my AA in humanities this spring also. My current GPA is 3.6. What are my chances of getting into those school. Oh and any information or advice for an Art History major will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance to all that reply!

I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into all four schools. It depends on your grades in important classes and your essay. I definitely see you getting into UCSB and UCSC. But UCLA and UCB are, by far, the best art history departments. The professors and graduate students are extremely intelligent, and the two schools probably offer the best and diverse classes. In the end it depends on your fit with the school. I did take an introductory art history class at UCB over the summer, taught by a graduate student, and it was intense yet amazing. I am thinking about applying to UCB and UCLA for art history. If you have a certain interest in a particular era or country, I would suggest doing research on Professors and classes offered in that area. Good luck!

I don’t think Art History is particularly competitive.
