Is B+ Good Enough? Please Chance Me I Appreciate It

Hello everyone!

I live in Northern Virginia, just outside of DC. My school was ranked 216 in the country, and we have a difficult grading scale. An A is 94-100, B+ is 90-93, B is 84-89, C+ is 80-83 and so on. We do not rank students.

After my junior year, my cumulative GPA is a 3.587. I think on a 90-100 A Scale I would be at about a 3.8. (I am really hoping the schools I apply to take the scale into consideration) We receive .5 for every AP course, nothing for honors. Here's my transcript:

I've done indoor and outdoor track all three years and played varsity tennis last year. I am president of our French Club, in National Honor Society, and an AP Scholar. I will be an editor of the school newspaper next year. I have worked both during the school year and summers for the past two years at an ice cream store.

My SAT's are 1960 (600 Math, 690 Reading, 670 Writing). I am taking the US History and Lit Subject Tests in October.

Schools:
McGill
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Pitzer
U Michigan Ann Arbor
University of Washington (Seattle)

Right now McGill is my top choice, though I'm uncertain on my chances of getting in as admissions chances are so varried. My gameplan as of now is to apply to UW in September. As they offer rolling admission, I will hopefully hear from them fairly quickly. If I am accepted, I can relax and just focus on my applications to the others and McGill. If not, I can panic and apply to more safe schools.

Sorry for all the information, I just wanted to be as thorough as possible. I know my biggest flaw is my Math SAT but I really don't intend on majoring in anything that involves Math. Should I retake?

Thanks for ALL your input and advice.

bump.........

I do think a college would take into account your school's strict grading requirements, and I would say if you ED at McGill, you would have a 50% chance of getting in. I would say your SAT might be the only reason I could see you not getting in. Best of luck!

Thanks for the input. I've just signed up for the September ACT so we will see how that will work out. What score do you guys think I should aim for?

Aim for a 32. I wouldn't stress too much though, your GPA is actually average for McGill U.

Really? Thats great to know

bump...................

youve got a solid shot at all of them. why not try for uva

I've been a bit disheartened by UVA...I live in Northern VA and competition for there is FIERCE. Plus I'm not really in love with the school. But thanks for the optimism, I've had people in other forums saying Wisconsin is a reach.

you can probably get into every school
just s.a.t scores werent put up

and its cool that you live in virgina

i go to t.j

nice i go to herndon. i appreciate all the input so much guys

bump..........

bump.........

last bump, i love reading your opinions guys!

one more BUMMMP

you shouldnt have too much trouble getting into your schools, but who go out of state? william and mary is a good school, as is jmu, and that school down the road from you (gmu) has several good undergraduate programs.

btw, i live in sterling. I LOVE UR GOLF COURSE. its so much nicer than ours

W&M would be a reach but the others would be a match.

I would be applying to more state schools but my family is moving next summer. I used to be pretty into JMU, but so many kids from my high school end up there and I really want to start somewhere new, preferably out of Virginia.

bump////////////

As far as I know about McGill, you have a good chance. Your AP test scores (5s, one 4) demonstrate the rigor of your school curriculum and help ameliorate some of the Bs. The avg SAT of McGill admits from my school is 1950; since McGill bases admission mainly on stats (GPA, SAT) you could use a retake - 2100+ would solidify your chances.
