Not sure which forum to put this under, but it’s here for answers I suppose.
It’s way too much work for me, but if you’re up to the challenge and the future lack of sleep in Residency, go ahead.
Reeaaaalllly long thread on the topic here: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/careers-medicine/74417-is-a-career-in-medicine-really-worth-it.html
Also a better place to ask this question is in the pre-med forum.
The tl;dr all boils down to: it depends. If it’s the only thing you can imagine yourself doing with your life–then it’s a worthwhile investment of time & effort. If you think you’d be happy doing anything else with your life–don’t go to med school.
Going into medicine for the big doctor bucks? Don’t. The ROI just isn’t there.
Why are you posting this? You recently had posts about biology studies, parental expectations. Do you WANT to be a doctor? Do you WANT to study biology? Based on your recent posts (unless you were exaggerating for hyperbole or effect), maybe you should talk to a family counselor or mental health professional about your concerns.
OP, aren’t you an International student? If so,that makes your journey to make to med school here WAY more difficult.
Pretty much impossible f international.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
The challenge with many of the new threads started by the OP is that most seem to be in the hypothetical vein or “What do you think about…” as opposed to questions directly impacting him/her. Which is fine - no prohibition against that. With no qualifier like “for me” I’m assuming this is posed as general interest.
To that end, I’m closing the thread as one already exists. Feel free to join the conversation there.
