Hi, guys.
I’m a girl from Paris, France and I applied ED to Brown.
Everybody in my school keeps saying that being from overseas gives you an advantage. Is that right?
And are they less demanding with SAT scores when we re from abroad?
I got 660 cr, 710 w so i m happy about those as I m completely foreign but my math is really low: 580.
Also I took an SAT II in french which is my native language…does it matter?

Actually, its the opposite. Being international is a disadvantage. And they'll take SAT scores strictly. Its the truth.

I don't know if being from Paris will help or hurt you. I would imagine that an international student from a really run down or third world country who has appropriate stats for Brown might have a bit of an edge, because there would be few, if any, applicants from that area. An intellectual mecca such as Paris, however, probably sends quite a few applications to Brown.

Actually, the main groups of international students to Brown are from Asia (especially South Korea, China, Singapore, etc), and Canada. I've met very few European international students, and none from Paris. I'd imagine this would help you.

Your English scores are very good. Your math score is pretty low, though. If you think you could do better if you retook it, I would try for that.

I stand corrected ;)

thanks for the advice. i'm just really stressing out since it's too late to take my sat again. I'm ED.waiting for the FINAL answer is just really stressful. i'm wondering about everything, what they'd like, don't like in my app.....it's driving me crazy! any suggestions?

You don't need suggestions -- you already applied! Just try to focus on other stuff for a while (obviously this isn't easy but it's pretty much all there is to do).

the only reason that being an international would be a disadvantage is if you need financial aid. they read applications from american students need-blind, but not for internationals.
