Is being part of a church youth group considered an EC?

Title says it all. As a Christian, I'm very active within it, and have contributed a significant number of hours to youth service/coordinated children's activities/volunteered as an accompanist on the piano for hymn singing. Would it be okay for me to list this as an EC? I know I'm probably being paranoid here, but I frequently hear that religion is a touchy subject... thoughts?

yes it is!

Of course. Don’t think that religion is a “touchy subject;” it’s only a problem if you start preaching in your application.

Thanks guys! If this actually does factor in as an EC, I feel a lot more accomplished now :D

dont get too cocky son

^ Hahaha, I’ll try not to ;)

It definitely counts as an EC. I joined a youth ministry group my senior year and I wrote an essay – one of my best, IMO – on how it helped me become more open-minded. Colleges appreciate interest and dedication of all kinds! Religion is only touchy in applications if you make it that way, ya know? Good luck! :)

a good extracurricular, IMO, is something you do outside of school that you feel passionate about and devote a lot of time to. by what you’re saying, i can tell that you seem to love it, and thus it seems like a phenomenal thing to express on a college app. good luck!
