I'm a high-school senior.I'm in a huge dilemma right now.I'm deciding between a career in design and a career in Business.
I'm a creative guy.I always come up with business ideas and I plan to implement a few of them next summer.Working on a product from scratch has always interested me.
I do some freelance design and I like being financially independent.

I'm not interested in finance, accounting etc. I'm much more interested in the creative side of it.

Which major do you think would suit me the best?

I think marketing would be a good major for you. There are plenty of good opportunities for people that are creative in the field of marketing, in any kind of way you can think of. Whether that be visual design, content marketing, coming up with marketing strategies or something else, the field of marketing provides a good variety of options for someone like you. You won’t have to deal with finance, accounting or any kind of money in marketing if you find a job on the design/creative side, so that shouldn’t be a worry for you.

What would be your dream job at this point?

Thanks.
I’m applying for New media design/User interaction design.
Over the past 1-2 years I’ve really started liking developing a product, coming up with strategies.I’ve even planned businesses to start during my vacations.

Would majoring in design and minoring in entrepreneurship/marketing/business be a good career option?

Minors are good for basic knowledge. If you feel like you are already skilled in that area, maybe a minor would be good, but if you are feeling up to it, a double major could be better. That way, you can get the full depth of knowledge on both topics and be ultra-prepared for the career you want. I think the new media design would be a good way to go if that’s what you are most interested in.

Thanks for the reply.

I think I should probably do the design degree with a minor/double major in business/marketing and then see how I feel about marketing and business. The thought of doing an MBA has sprung up on my mind too.
I’ve seen that engineers often do MBAs to change career paths to get on the business side of the stuff.
