I have always wanted to be an aerospace engineer, and I want to go to BYU because of the environment, but I hear that BYU is more of a business school. Is BYU a good fit for me?
Are you Mormon?
No, I am not, but I am ready to conform to their lifestyle. I do not think it will be too difficult, because I am a Hindu, and Hinduism has basically all of the same qualities as Mormonism
I don’t think it’s a fit. They don’t appear to have an Aerospace Engineering program, though they may have related majors (I’m not familiar with all the different kinds of engineering). You may want to check out their undergraduate major catalog: https://registrar.byu.edu/catalog/2014-2015ucat/Advisement/MajorList.php
Regarding religion, I don’t know how much you know about Mormonism but have some general advice about assessing the “qualities” and “lifestyle” of Mormonism. I find that people usually only refer to the Honor Code, i.e. what the Mormons don’t do, when talking about “qualities” and “lifestyle”, while ignoring what they actually do. And in BYU, being Mormon and doing Mormon things is a really big part of the lifestyle. General Conference, Family Home Evening, temple visits, church on Sundays, ward prayers… get ready to experience all those things or live in relative isolation if you choose not to.
In short, what I’m saying is the “BYU lifestyle” is a lot more than just no sex, no partying, no drugs, no alcohol, no coffee and no tea.
I understand what you are saying. I have contacted the BYU Admissions department regarding my religious affiliation, and they have said that I do not have to follow the Mormon faith in any way other than the honor code because of my non-LDS status. I have also considered going into medicine. does BYU have a good medical program?
