back to the workload in business...its a lot lighter than it is in some of the other majors. Case does not officially keep class rank because you have kids doing absolutely nothing and kids double majoring in hard sciences so it would hardly be fair. i have a friend who is business and its pretty easy going for him. but my double math and bio majors are tough. very tough. its how it goes though. business majors dont have to put up with obscenely time consuming labs, science classes, they take easy math, etc. Not to mention adding a few classes here and there can get you econ, or finance minor or something. I'm not saying the business school is easy, its just very different than science/engineeringg and by different id say less workload

Is that true for any BIZ school?

Do you find that its usually the slackers who take biz?

I'd suspect things would be generally lighter at most business schools than some hard science. Not sure though. Typically i've heard the slackers do business at other schools and its a joke, but not at case. the kids who do business here tend to be very motivated and driven.

Is that the case for most students at Case, regardless of major?

Yea, i'd say regardless of major there are very driven people. Sometimes i think people forget that they dont have to get into college any more yet still do excessive worthless activites. Some are actually driven and do substantive things they care about . On the flip side there are some pretty stupid people too. everyday i am shocked by how dumb people can be. either way theres a mix no matter what.

Whats your major/ what year are you in?

Is there anything about Case that an incoming freshman might want to know?

i'm a first year (sophomore standing) biology and math major. i know a couple of guys in business though. as far as what incoming frosh might want to know. theres alot. ask away. i cant think of stuff off the top of my head

Any proffs or advisors in particular to go for?

Is the food as bad as they say?

What have the recent financial problems at Case, as well as the removal of the President meant for the students/student life/academics (if anything)?

I have a question: how hard is it to double major? Is it common? thanks :D I'm visiting tomorrow and unless I hate it I'm likely going to end up at case! :p

Same here

SebmaFSX_53:
1. Freshmen are assigned advisors so not like you have much a choice in the matter anyway.
2. The food is no better or worse than food at any other college really, so conclude what you will. ;)
3. The recent brouhaha at Case hasn't really affected anything for the students as the quality of teaching hasn't changed a bit (ie the professors are the same) and the financial strain was basically taken out on general faculty at the university. I wouldn't worry much about this one.
celebrian25:
It really depends what the two majors are, but it's definetely doable if you come in knowing that's what you want to do and research it in detail. Of all the combinations of dual majors I've heard of there's only one where it was particularly impossible to do in four years (dual astronomy/physics BS).

I'm a physics and history b.a major. I don't see it as being much harder than getting a B.S major in oh say Physics. It's just a little more variety of work.

If you're looking for professors, I suggest you go to ratemyprofessor.com or go to the schedule of classes at Case's website (check the registrar).

The removal of the president means very little for the undergraduates as I see it. Sages is going to continue. The village has already been built. The debt on the other hand might mean something. They're going to try to minimize the effect on students to near zero. They're going to try to take the money out of administrational costs. So differences we're going to see are things like older computers, fewer janitors and stuff like that. They're not going to be getting rid of majors/programs or firing professors or anything like that.

Yea makes sens...personally I think many Universities spend too much on needless things aka, Gym equipment, Alienware computer design rooms, things of that nature...MIT is a school w/ massive endowment and crappy buildings...WHY? because they spend there Several Billion dollars in what really matters in particular research...

my 2 cents

i loved my case visit yesterday. I'm highly favoring case at this point :D

SebmaFSX_53: usually the problem with a university is not that they don't have money as much as they can't put the money to places where they need it. For example, here at Case they're going to be remodelling one of the engineering buildings in what is arguably not nessecary, but an alum donated money for this specifically so they'll do it despite the deficit. MIT has the same situation: their researchers get a lot of money from research grants so they're rolling in it, but when it comes down to it the university itself can't afford everything else.

celebrian25, it is easy to double major as far as the school's and your advisor's perspective - they will not hold you back from it at all. Any combination of majors you select is encouraged. The thing that might make it hard is fitting everything in in 4 years and the difficulty of the coursework depending on what you majors you pick (engineering is reputed to be a lot of work). A very large % of Case students are double majors.

The requirements stated in the course catalog make it clear how to double major and you will also see that it is much easier to fit in 1 or even 2 minors (than a double major).

OK, so now that you visited you have an idea what the school is about. I'd say it's not glamorous or pretentious. It's not for everyone, but some people it's fantabulous.

That comment on another thread that the students are "dead"; well, you will meet a slew of outgoing, friendly (and competent) upperclass students at the orientation days over the summer, disproving that notion IMO.

Well I'm going to officially enroll I've decided. I agree it's not for everyone, but I'm pretty confident it's right for me :D

YEY !
:D:D:D
Case academics will take you wherever you want to go IMO.

Good to hear that you could make a choice celeb

i was just at Case today..it was AWESOME. Right now im at UMich, but it will take a lot to convince me not to attend Case at this point.
