I was reading reviews of Clemson and it is commonly ranked as one of the most conservative schools in the nation. I was just wondering would a liberal democrat, like myself, feel out of place?...

I have been on the college tour and I loved the campus but school was not in session so I did not get a chance to meet and real students.

While the campus is largely conservative, almost everyone is open to new ideas and the amount of outspoken conservatives is low. There are still quite a few liberals on campus, so you won’t be alone. As long as you keep an open mind to others, everyone will keep an open mind to you.

This topics came up a few months ago when someones son was looking at Clemson. This was my response- “While Clemson is a pretty conservative campus, I don’t believe that you should worry. Last year we invited all of the presidential candidates to speak at Clemson. When Obama came there was a huge crowd to see him speak with no one protesting the idea. While there are some outspoken conservatives (and liberals) most people here are open to and respect others opinions. As long as your S is open to conservatives and can accept that others think differently (and won’t change their opinion), he shouldn’t have any problems.”

Here is a link to that thread- http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/clemson-university/696624-ok-question-i-have-been-dreading.html?highlight=liberal

Thank you so much! Still I just worry that I will feel out of place… Well I guess I will apply, visit again and see what my options are.
