Is CMU worth it for Economics major?

Hello,

I’ve been accepted to the Dietrich College at CMU.
So far, the school has given me $30k in grants, but that still leaves $36k or so. I just sent a financial aid appeal form, but I am not optimistic.

I’m comparing UMD - College Park with CMU. CMU is more than twice the price of UMD and I’m very unsure with which school to go to. However, CMU does have this focus on jobs and opportunities after graduation (CMU grads also have the highest average salaries after college.)

Could someone please give me advice on this? I really like CMU but I’m completely devastated that its affordability is beyond my range.

Also, I’m definitely going to go after a MBA after undergrad studies. Getting a a Masters degree will also be just as expensive, and more than likely, even more costly than undergrad degree.

If that $36k is gonna be in debt, I think you have answered your own question.

That’s a lot of debt that will make it hard to stop working to go back for an MBA.

wow im actually in the same situation as you! Econ and have to pay about 35,000 a year. And then theres Rutgers which is 10,000 less than CMU. Honestly I really loved CMU and kinda hated Rutgers but I feel terrible taking on debt. Ill prob be in like 50,000 debt when I graduate, vs 10,000. @Tuscani what did you decide to do? Im leaning towards Carnegie Mellon but idk

@Katherine98614 I decided to go to CMU.
What about you?
