Is co-op necessary?

Is co-op necessary?

Don't get me wrong, I have the grades for it, but I don't really want to spend a year doing it. I just don't want to cripple myself by choosing not to. My school has the best co-op system in Canada, and I know that I'd get a good job, but I am planning on law school after I get my mechE degree, and it will be a lot of years. I also want to pursue an MBA, and I could get a join llb/mba in 4 years. This is 8 years without co-op, and 9 years with. I want to either become a patent lawyer or an investment banker; but who knows? I'm first year; who's to say that I won't change my mind and work as an engineer instead? If I work as an engineer, I'll be getting at least my MSc, if that makes a difference. Maybe co-op isn't as necessary if you have an MSc?

I have the same question...I'm two years into Aerospace Engineering, and really settled at school. I would hate to leave for a whole semester or summer.

I was thinking of taking an internship after college if I couldn't find a job right away.

Our co-op program is 18 months. You do every summer after second year, and two full semesters. You also cramp up your schedule even MORE, so it makes it that much harder to get a high GPA. I don't really want to do it.
