I’m currently a sophomore and I’ve very interested in creative writing. It’s one of my favorite things. I’ve been critiquing some stories and writing some of my own on a website. Of course, these aren’t published novels, but they’re written by aspiring writers. Would this be an effective extracurricular, as in would it look good when colleges see it? Is there any way that I can make it look better.
That typo in the title is annoying me…
I think that sounds like a good activity, and colleges will appreciate your initiative. However, it is important that you establish this as a real EC rather than just a hobby. Make sure you clean up and refine your website to look professional before your applications, and maybe submit your writing to some contests (you may even win scholarships this way!), go to writing programs over the summer, or start a writing club at your school. There has to be some objective measure of how good your work is.
Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it It’s not a website that I created though, it’s a platform where a lot of writers are. And I critique some of the stories on their and write some of my own. The website does host contests and hosts an annual contest for the best stories on the site around 100 are chosen total since the website following is quite large. I also planned on starting a creative writing club but I missed the deadline so I won’t be able to create it until next year and then start it senior year. So do you think the critiquing and writing part is worth mentioning or would my story have to have a lot of reads for it to worth mentioning? Reads on the sight are like views on a youtube video
