Is writing considered extracurricular?

One of my supplements asks me to write about an extracurricular activity. I’m a bit of a fictional writer and I feel that this is an important part of my identity. Although I’m a part of my creative writing club, I generally write stories at home by myself, before sharing them. Do you think that I could still elaborate and treat this as an extracurricular activity?

ANYTHING you do outside of the classroom is an extracurricular. Washing dishes everyday could be an extracurricular. It shows discipline and you could write about how you want to take the load off of your family. Not many students write about washing dishes because they feel it’s so simple. The more unique your extracurricular is, the more appealing you are as a student applying to top schools.

TL;DR, yes. it is.

Definitely! As the previous poster mentioned, anything you do outside the classroom counts.

If an activity has shaped you as a person (you specifically mentioned that writing forms a crucial part of your identity) then yes, this is definitely a good extracurricular to write about! You seem dedicated to the art, which makes it even better since you’ll be able to show discipline and perseverance! I remember reading a wonderful essay by this girl who wrote about her struggles while writing a novel/story — so that’s definitely a good choice!

Any writing that is not submitted to your teacher as part of a class is extracurricular writing.
