I believe it is November 20th or thereabouts.

how is the student body of Dartmouth? are they smart and sarcastic? jappy?

We are pretty laid-back as a whole... moreso than other Ivys and some other top schools. Lots of collarpopping and prep-school grads, but I don't feel a very "prep" vibe from them. I'm about as far from prep as you get, and a lot of my friends come from that background and we are very close.

Basically, people are open and accepting. Lots of intelligence, but no one goes around trying to impress each other. Most people are very talkative and eager to meet new people and have a good time. My friend made the statement, "everyone is a closet nerd"... I suppose you have to be if you get into an Ivy =)

Everyone gets a different sense of the people here depending on who you know and hang out with. I personally think Dartmouth students are very relaxed and easy-going.

Btw, here's the DC blitz:

Nice. Hmmm..plot...hatching.

"jappy?"

I wouldn't throw that phrase around too much!

I hate to keep bringing up visiting, but if I do come to see the Dashboard show, will I be missing a lot by it not being "official"? Are classes really essential to a college visit, or can I rest assured about the quality of education at Dartmouth?

Would there be any kind of benefit to having a scheduled visit, where they know I took the time to come up and bring my little sleeping bag and everything? It sounds weird, but I mainly just want to get the map and stuff they give to visiting overnighters. :P I guess they'll know I'm there if I do an interview.

I dont' know, I'm way more anxious about this than I should be.

ww: if you are planning on coming that weekend email me at drownindreams@dartmouth.edu and maybe I can help iron out plans?

You and always pcik up a map om campus and other Dartmouth stuff at the Dartmouth Coop or traditionally trendy. depending on when you arrived you may be able to attend class with your host. You could alwasy go to McNutt, sign in if you need to make your presence known. Remember your "unofficaial visit" cam come across in your essays

Thanks a lot, gals. Email and information noted.

Hey Willy,

You should grovel to see if any one can put you up for homecoming which is begins thursday-sunday

My son, from NYC, has not been bored for a minute at Dartmouth. The only problem is that a heck of a lot of the activity keeping him stimulated involves partying and a great deal of alcohol!

Lisa, is your son a freshman? Fear not because you will be getting a mid year report shortly (mid-terms are wrapping up this week). He will get a reality check on the party & alcohol (unless he does really well , then you will have to come up with another argument, because D says its pretty quite Sun-Thurs) But then again homecoming begins wednesday night

My daughter also from NYC, stays busy, and is not a drinker and is having a great time at Dartmouth.

I thought that the reports came out after the end of the first term.

No sybbie, he's a junior. Hard to believe, but his grades are great. The frat scene, however, disturbes me.

Honestly, I really don't think this is something that parents should be worried about. Believe it or not, but the frat brothers will actually watch how much you drink and not let you have more if they see that you're done (this is from first-hand experience).

Of course some worrying is natural. That's what parents are for :) But 99.9% of the people I've met are all about keeping themselves and others together. A lot of people here do keep themselves under control, and if somebody goes too far one night, friends or at least floormates can always be found to walk them back and make sure they don't do anything stupid.

just got back from visiting (missed you, xanatos, sorry about that, i did get to see the freyweather ? dorm though)

dartmouth is awesome. i can definitely see myself there.

toga! toga!

Don't worry about it Babybird, it's cool. What did you think of the Fayerweathers?

fayerweathers was cute...i was surprised dorms were so small...

i just found out that my former English teacher has a godson who goes to dartmouth who i could have done an overnight with if i had only known

apparently he applied from like slovenia, or something, so he was a shooin. that's awesome

I see now that yes, dartmouth may be really rural, but it's not neccessarily a con

Everything I've heard about Dartmouth's location is positive. Mostly, that it being "isolated" only serves to make the student body more tight-knit.
