Is Dartmouth the right place for me?

I was just wondering if Dartmouth matched up to my personality rather than test scores, GPA, etc. From what I have heard/read it sounds amazing. If you think any other schools sound like they will fit me please say them. I am a 17 year old male from Florida.

I pride myself on doing well academically. However I am not a "grade grubber" and I would rather compete with myself to get my own goals. (I set my goals and write them down and tape it to my wall and I look at them every time I walk out of my room). I really want to go to a school where I can get a great education, set up some opportunities for jobs out of college, meet some new buddies, and have a great time.

I am an extremely relaxed person and I am also outgoing. I love to party with my friends and I find it relatively easy to make new ones. Not to sound like a douche, but I typically make friends with kids at my high school that are not as academically focused as I am because they know how to have a good time and aren’t as stressed out as the “smarter” kids. I pride myself upon being athletic and physically fit and I love the outdoors; I live in Florida and I go fishing or kayaking whenever I have the chance.

Basically, I am looking for a top-tier school with strong academics where students compete with themselves and not others. Also I want it to be a laid back atmosphere where I can meet some cool people and get a lot of partying done.

Thank you for your time and any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

you should read some of the other threads on this forum... you literally sound like the poster boy/girl for Dartmouth.

Dartmouth does sound ideal for you. I would say apply to Colgate too, which I think is the closest equivalent to Dartmouth environment-wise, but just somewhat less academically respected, somewhat smaller and more laid back; so if you get W/L at Dartmouth (like me), you'll have a similar atmosphere. Stanford, Bucknell, UVA and Washington & Lee may all be good options for you too, but I would ED to Dartmouth if I were you (I wish I had, although Colgate still worked out pretty well).
