Is the Davis honours program worth it? i understand it comes with certain privileges but my top priority is still earning a high GPA in university and i heard that its harder to get good marks in any sort of university honours program?
Yes, it’s worth it. Absolutely.
1° less anonymous experience - you get to the Honors residential hall and you’re surrounded by like-minded people with whom you’ll be taking classes. It’s easier to make friends and to organize study groups. And you get to live in the best residence hall on campus.
2° At a large university with classes that are frequently full, priority registration is worth its price in gold. This means you can avoid the bad professors, the classes at times where you don’t perform well, and the topics you’re not interested in. As a result, your grades are better.
3° Honors students are especially suited to the teaching style of honors classes and thus tend to have better grades in them.
So, all in all, Honors students have all the conditions to get BETTER grades and a higher GPA - and they usually do.
Note that this is by invitation only, so that right now there are thousands of students who are green with envy that you got invited and will get all these perks and advantages. You earned this through excellence in high school - now, go and claim what you earned and don’t second-guess yourself.
@MYOS1634 thank you so much! that was very helpful…i reckon u are a davis student…do u mind sharing ur gpa or the gpa of your classmates (not high school gpa, but the gpa you got at davis)? i just hope davis is a school where it is not overly difficult to get a high gpa! thx so much!
I’m not a UC Davis honors student (check my profile) but I can assure you from empirical evidence far greater than just one person, that honors students do better in their honors classes and tend to have GPA 's much higher than non honors students.
