Turning down a full tuition scholarship at a state school (specifically U of Pittsburgh and U of Maryland)? I qualify for the whole Emory Advantage thing (income <50,000) but from what I can tell, and I might very well be wrong, its very possible their EFC might be a lot different then what FAFSA gives me. HELP!! Oh and I intend to do the pre health track if it matters, possibly majoring/minoring in finance or something like that.

My real EFC was higher than what FAFSA told me. It’s because of the CSS Profile.

Yea thats what I mean, even if FAFSA says my EFC is zero there’s ways that colleges can screw you. Anyone have any opinions?

CSS tries to find where your hidden moneys are, so that’s how they screw you. If your parents saved like $100,000 in their whole life time and only makes $40,000 a year then Emory will kick up your EFC.

I got my EFC raised because my parents own our house (they bought it in 1981). Having no mortgage payments hurts, strangely.

My EFC went up hugely…I have a trust account (~75000) yet my mother only makes ~25,000 yearly, so now I have to pay 34k/year. Is there anything I can do about this?

Your financial package doesn’t make any sense at all.

His parents or someone else in his family must have super insane amount of money saved in their bank accounts or something, seriously. I bet they caught him using CSS.

But if he himself thinks it’s fishy he talk to the admissions and find out what went wrong if he doesn’t really have that much money in the bank.

Absolutely yes. I turned down a full scholarship to a state school as well. As a high school student I knew Emory was my perfect fit. Now as a college freshman at Emory, I wake up most days excited. The campus and the atmosphere is incredible, the university life at Emory University is extraordinary and fun. If you have any questions, shoot me an email nnlevy@emory.edu.

I will be taking student loans in the future, but when I reflect on how motivated I am here, the friends I have made, the business I am starting, etc., I know it is all worthwhile.

^I know who you are now. /creeper

^i made sum poopoos in ur toilet!!! LOL!!! u r a creepr man

The email address makes it pretty obvious.

Personally, I’d say no…but opinions differ…

Edit: Actually, if you only have to pay 20% or whatever it just might be.

Also, there is no minor in finance and doing pre-med classes along with the business school will wear you out pretty quickly.

If Emory is THE school for you and fits you and your future, then I’d say to go for it.
