This isn't my account just FYI. It's my Duke obsessed friend's haha :P

I'm a rising high school senior and I REALLY WANT TO GO TO EMORY. I'm pretty positive I can get in because I have a high ACT and SAT score, as well as good uw gpa, many APs and ECs and whatnot.

ANYWAYS.

In order to go to Emory though..I need a lot of money. I looked at the school's site and it's $55992 to attend the university for one year.....That's way more than I can afford. My parents make around $79,000 a yr, we have ~$15,000 in savings, ~$250,000 for house value. There are 5 people living in my household (two younger siblings). I really don't want to gather too much debt for just undergrad..and my parents are willing to pay ~$10,000 a yr for college.

Do you think I can get a lot of need based financial aid to pay off $45,000 of the tuition? I don't want to take loans..because of their interest rates :( Any Emory people out there who have gone through the financial aid process? What were your stats and how much did you get? & Has anybody appealed an aid package? What do you think about my financial situation?

I would recommend running your number through the financial aid calculator to get an idea of your family’s EFC (use the institutional methodology). Based on what you posted, your family’s EFC is going to be quite a bit more than 10k

through the emory advantage, if your family make less than 100k, Emory tries to cap loans t 15k

Thanks for the reply :)

and…that sucks. I hope I can go to Emory somehow…

Is 15k a lot in terms of undergrad debt? How long would it take to pay it off…

15k is pretty moderate. depending on what major you are going into, it can take 3 to 6 years.

I’m planning to major in bio and go on to med school and become a dentist

If that is your plan you should limit your undergrad debt as much as possible.

I’ve been talking it over with my parents and they agree with limiting the debt haha

I’m now deciding between UGA or GA Tech for biology major…any thoughts? I know uga is easier to get a high gpa but ga tech is a better school with more research and career opportunities. However, tech is an extremely rigorous school…would it be better for me to go to tech or uga?

I can’t see anything wrong with either choice. Both are very good schools. Why don’t you apply to both, visit, and see which you like better.

What about the honors program at UGA?

I’m going to apply for the Honors program but I don’t know if I can get in? My friends who are in it right now say I should get in no problem cause of my stats but…who knows. I do know being a part of that program is a huge advantage when it comes to housing, choosing classes, and just being a uga student

But I’d much rather be a techie. [GA TECH!!] I’m just afraid majoring in biology there will kill my gpa :/
