I could fill out all 12 extracurricular activity spaces without too much trouble, but I have a feeling I will come across as someone who focuses on breadth, not depth.

This is not entirely true, because I have around 4-5 activities that I have participated in for all four years of high school, and I have invested a lot of time and effort into them.

However, I also have a couple that I only participated in freshman year, but I feel that those are pretty important. I just couldn't continue them because of time conflicts with other activities. I really want to list them, but would this hurt my chances and make others think I'm overdoing it with a ridiculous laundry list?

Thanks in advance! :)

I did, but some of the things were insignificant or things I only did once. (I.e camp counselor for a summer, internship)

From what I gather, it’s definitely not necessary to fill out all twelve spots on the Common App. In fact, some CCers were even considering leaving out insignificant ECs to emphasize their focus areas.

^ Yes I think that’s very sensible. Would it be harmful then to fill out all 12? :/

Things you only did for a year that weren’t short-term commitments or were started senior year are generally not important enough to mention. Even if you ideally would have continued with them, you couldn’t. I wouldn’t bother mentioning them.

I’m really glad I found this post! I was wondering the same thing.
