Filling all spots on CA EC's

Regarding top tier schools, is it imperative to have filled all the spots for Ec’s on the common app list. I understand they want deep extracurriculars and not just clubs you joined and can say you’re part of, but it is important to have the max number od c’s you can fit all be deep and involved. I have about 6/7 c’s that i will put on my app without a doubt because they have depth however I am worried about either filling the other 3 with insignificant clubs that I’m apart of or just leaving them blank.

Do not fill out every EC spot if you did not genuinely have an interest in the activity. To use a quote I posted earlier regarding an identical question: “Admissions officers do not want a grocery list of all the things you have done in high school; they want what is most relevant to your character. It’s great that you’ve already participated in so many activities, but ask any admission officer and they’ll say they’ll take a student who has been very involved in three extracurriculars over the student who has been superficially interested in eight.”

It is fine to leave some lines blank. My S did and had no issues. Best to focus on things you have been committed to. Admissions officers will be able to smell out activities put in just as fillers and they won’t add anything to your application.

The slots are for YOU to present to the reader what were the most important ECs for you. Adding fluff to fill the later slots only dilute.

Okay thank you all! I will just include those 6 or 7 great ec’s

Can you fully describe the ECs in the space given? If not, is there a way to split any of them into 2 and then use double the space to describe it / them?

I have 4 main ECs, 2 jobs, and 3 volunteering opportunities that I’m actively (and genuinely) involved with.

I was about to say the same as @Gatortristan, is it bad if I’ll have 9 slots out of 10 filled out?

No, of course not.

@Princetonian2020 OHHHHHHH I completely forgot that jobs and volunteering go into the ec spot. Thanks for reminding me!

Not a problem, best of luck! @Gatortristan
