is financial aid award playing a part in the UC you choose?

I already SIRd to UCLA, but i feel guilty because they will only cover my tutition through blue and gold while UCSD offered me about 21-22K grant.

If i was single I wouldnt feel as guilty but since im married I feel bad taking out loans and putting me and my spouse into debt. But UCLA is the one school I really wanted to go to, and my spouse knows this. i guess im just secons guessing myself here.

Is financial aid going to play a part in which school you choose??

For me, not really. I’ve SIR’d with UCSD despite the fact I got over 30k to University of Rochester and over 17k to UCD. UCSD is only giving me 4k, but I’m still going there because my financial aid app situation was a little messed up and I feel I will get more money next year.

I’m choosing UCSD over better financial aid packages because I’ll be happiest there rather than anywhere else. That’s why I’m subjecting myself to loans. (Maybe that’s a bad thing lol)

I am in a very similar situation to you, UCLA is covering just about exactly tuition, UCSD offered me about 6,000 more. I feel guilty in that aspect but in the end SIR to UCLA.

Well, just remember that you’re likely to take out loans regardless, and at least by going to community college, you’ve saved a lot of money. How much debt do you expect to incur by graduation?

As for the question at hand, I’m really poor, so I’ve gotten good offers at every UC that generated an offer for me. If Berkeley, a school that I applied to, offers me substantially more money upon being admitted, however, I’ll probably consider going to their school.

@sonic23 - Well I was Accepted at one UC and the financial aid was less than what I expected it’s about 18k and 2k in work study at UCSB.

And Waitlisted at the other UC (UCSD) I’m considering so I can’t see my financial aid there but I think if I were to get awarded around 24k in grants/scholarships there I would go.

And same with @Cayton if I got in to Berkeley (which I don’t believe I have a good shot at) and they offered me more aid I would definitely make that my primary choice.

For me, financial aid is the deal breaker. I don’t want to drown in debt b/c I plan on going to grad school right after. Having undergraduate paid for and only worrying about graduate school loan is ideal for me.
