Your UC FinAid package

Is anyone getting a full ride at UCLA or UCSD?

or,

if you don't mind revealing this information, please, post how much you're gonna be getting to attend a UC.

I'm not sure if I'm getting the right amount of gift aid, which is $16,000 out of $30,000.
My family household income is under $40,000 (that's me and my husband, who's on active duty military service). I thought if you fall below $80,000, the cost will be covered...

Anyway, share your experience.

Thanks

What people do not realize is that loans and all that stuff they put in your awards is technically “financial aid” because they get them for you at a good rate and such.

I am currently getting a full ride at UCLA, my EFC is 0 and I have a household income much below $40,000. I did not have to take out any loans because of my Regents Scholarships and all the other gift aid I received.

The B&G (if that was what you were referring to) only covers your fees (AKA tuition), I know it sounds great, but that’s all it covers. :/

@Rhee, what other gift aid are you getting? My EFC is 0, as well. I received Cal Grant, Pell Grant, some other one but it only ended up covering 18K and telling me to take out 7K in subsidized loans.

Would you mind PM me the info? Or posting it- whatever you’re comfortable with!

My awards range 17-20K coming from pell grants, work study, and loan offers. I qualify for blue + gold so the bulk of my awards are the system fees covered by cal grants.

my EFC is about 1500, btw.

I got 21k in gift aid for and then 9k in work study and loans.

And my EFC is 0

Basically, and I won’t post up the award amounts because I don’t remember, and my new award letter hasn’t come out yet…

B&G (covers university “fees” AKA tuition. Name change coming ASAP.)
Regents
Work-Study
Pell Grant
School Scholarship (forgot what it was called, but it’s about $10,000 and it replaces the Cal Grant I should have got but didn’t because of budget problems. :/)
Other scholarships for being a science major (Psychobiology).

Ususally you get money back, regardless if you take out loans or not, and are expected to pay your housing, if you’re in the dorms/university apartments…and that’s a different, somewhat long story.

If someone wants to know, just ask.

My EFC is about 4800. I’m getting $11,120 cal grant and around $4,500 in academic achievement scholarships. UCSD is offering me $19,000. Why such a difference between the two schools? I thought all UCs give about the same amount…

It’s strange, on the CalGrant website, my status is “Awaiting Processing”.

can you access your cal grant? the whole website is down on my mac.

UCSD says I’ll have $18k in gift aid, and then I’ll need another $9k in loans or whatnot.

Cal Grants will be up by June 2nd; at least for Cal Grant Renewals it’s June 2nd. I believe it said 4-6 weeks for new apps.

If you’re having trouble email them, they’re incredible efficient 2 years ago I didn’t qualify and I was shocked, they literally emailed me the point breakdown and how many points I was awarded for what and where.

yea, Cal Grant does show on my fin aid package. it’s a little over 11k.
Total gift aid is 16k. That’s for UCLA.

I can’t get 14k out of pocket money :(

UCLA is giving me 21k scholarship, 7000 subsidized loan, 2000 work study. ME LIKE THIS!!!

UCLA is giving me $27640. $1800 is grant, $2000 is work study, the rest is loans. I can’t complain.

Wait… financial aid doesn’t cover housing in dorms??
I’m being offered 17k and 5k in loans (this is for Davis by the way, EFC0)
