Some universities, like Princeton, MIT and Harvard claim to have equal opportunities for the international students as for the local U.S applicants. Is it true? Is the same aid calculator used for international students too?

These schools say they meet financial need for international students in the same way as for U.S. citizens.

Their aid is for both.

However, I’m not sure that they offer “equal opportunity”. The int’l applicants are competing against each other for a smaller number of spots.

Oh alright.

The 3 schools that you mentioned will all meet 100% demonstrated need for both international and US citizens/permanent residents.

However, they well not give “equal aid” opportunities as US citizens/permanent residents are eligible for federal aid and depending on the state, they are also eligible for state aid or PLUS loans if needed. International students are not eligible for federal or state aid or PLUS loans.

It is the school and not your family that determines how much they can afford to pay.
