Is Financial Aid renewable or a gross for the whole 4 years?

Hi, I'm an international student applying to Worcester Polytechnic of Institute. Their financial aid for international students website says:

<a href="http://www.wpi.edu/offices/fa/international-students.html">http://www.wpi.edu/offices/fa/international-students.html</a></p>

*A minimum family contribution of $16,400 (plus travel expenses) must be applied to the cost of attendance at WPI for international students to be considered for financial assistance.

Does that mean that my family must pay at least $16,400 (plus travel) for EACH year of university, or is this the entire sum we have to pay for ALL 4 years of university?

Please let me know as my family and I are trying to make a decision, since we're on a low income...
Thank you.

That, my friend, unfortunately, is the yearly cost of attendance on your part. It means that you’ll have to invest (16400*4 = $65,600 + travelling expenses for 4 yrs + increase in tuition each year) on your education.

Or, even better, instead of taking a stranger’s word for it, you could contact WPI directly and ASK.

You have two threads about your financial aid prospects at WPI. As noted by dodgersmom on the OTHER thread…WPI does NOT guarantee to meet full need for all accepted students. Their addition of the required travel expense money for international students is required. THAT alone exceeds your family annual income.

As noted on the OTHER thread…make sure all of your financial aid application materials are submitted ON TIME and then just wait and see what happens.

That WPI info also says that need based aid is provided to international students “secondary to family, government, or other sponsored support”.

Send the school an email for clarification…or just be patient and wait to see what your financial aid award is. That award will be for ONE year only. The WPI site does say that you won’t need to reply in subsequent years…but that doesn’t mean you will see an increase in your aid once your family savings is all spent.

BUT do remember this…college is for FOUR years. Your family is first in line to fund this for all FOUR years. It sounds like you have money in the bank for ONE year only. Since WPI does not meet full need for all, it is likely that you won’t see an increase in aid once your savings is all spent the first year. Then what?

I sure hope you have an affordable option on your application list…WPI might not be that option!
