Is getting a sociology degree worth it?

I’m leaning towards getting one but am worried that it won’t be useful for getting a job. The professors and counsellors I’ve asked have said it is a good degree because it is flexible and can create many opportunities. While the stuff I have read online says that getting a sociology degree is useless because it is seen as an “easy degree” and many jokes are made about people who have them. I see college as an investment and do not want to waste money and go into student loan debt for a degree that will land me nowhere with a minimum wage job. I would like to be well off, living comfortably. Can sociology degree get me a good career/job?

It depends what you do with that degree and how you apply it.

Personally, in our geographic area, a socially degree leads to applying to grad school for the school of Social Work.
Woking in this area is not considered to be a very lucrative career, as far as finances are concerned, but it is lucrative in how you feel.

You should check out the Bureau of Labor Statistics to look at career wages; that should help put it in perspective.

Agree with @“aunt bea” I think every major is worth taking. It is in the student’s hands what he’s going to do after he going to do after he graduates.
